Sara McGuinness is well known on the UK Salsa scene, having worked as a piano player, bandleader and educator in the field of Cuban music for more than 20 years. She is the band leader of Latin/Congolese fusion band Grupo Lokito (2017 Lukas Award Winners) and Cuban salsa band Sarabanda. In 2018 she was the UK Lukas Awards Latin Musician of the Year. Sara has a passion for teaching people about and giving access to Latin music. Her projects include running the 30 strong, successful Cuban Big Band Orquesta Estelar, teaching an annual Cuban Music Course in Havana Cuba and teaching Sound Recording and Performance in the Saharawi refugee camps in the Sahara desert. She currently is working on a project to playback musical performances in a low-tech 3D immersive setting. In parallel with her musical activities, Sara lectures in performance and recording at The London College of Music and University of West London School of Oriental and African Studies.
